Each year, the judges at Motor Trend are tasked with ranking the Best Driver’s Car, selecting the winner in addition to determining the finishing order for the rest of the top 12 vehicles. This year, the BMW M2 Competition and the BMW M850i xDrive were both ranked in the top 10, making BMW the only manufacturer with more than one car on the list.

Coming in at number 10, the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe is praised for its great engine note and fantastic predictability. This large, luxurious couple is all about power and agility with a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission and an engine that packs some serious firepower, making it a great overall car.

The M850i xDrive Coupe marks the return of the 8 Series after almost twenty years. Designed with adrenaline seekers in mind, the M850i xDrive Coupe boasts 523-horsepower with its 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8, standard all-wheel drive, and scintillating acceleration that will take you from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds.

The second contender coming at number 3 is the BMW M2 Competition Coupe. Motor Trend’s judges declared this mean machine the perfect first-timer’s track car. With its 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, the M2 Competition Coupe can deliver 405 horsepower and 7,600 rpms.

Perhaps this is why Motor Trend describes the BMW M2 Competition as, “Frolicky, pointy, planted, and confident,” and goes on to say, “The Bimmer prefers fast sweepers to tight twisties, but it can live all day at the on-limit nirvana.” With an extra punch of power that comes from two turbocharger, the luxury coupe goes from 0-60 mpg in only 4.2 seconds.

The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe and BMW M2 Competition Coupe had some impressive competition on Motor Trend’s list with the Jaguar XE SV Project 8, the McLaren Senna, and the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S. To see the full rankings, click here.
